Sedum ‘Neon’ and ‘Brilliant’
* Common name: Sedum ‘Neon’ or ‘Brilliant’
* Botanical name: Sedum spectabile
* What it is: Fall-blooming perennial flowers with fleshy, succulent light-green leaves and umbrella-shaped pink flower clusters that mature to rust in October. Attracts bee and butterflies.
* Size: More compact than most upright sedums. 18-20 inches tall, 2 feet apart.
* Where to use: Sunny borders or foundations. Looks best in a band of at least five plants 2 feet apart.
* Care: Cut browned-out foliage to ground at end of winter. Scatter bed in spring with granular, organic flower fertilizer. If you find plants flop apart, shear them back by one-half in June. They’ll regrow in weeks and stay tighter. Should not need water after first year.
* Great partner: Ring these around any tall ornamental grass or plant them under a dark-leafed Japanese maple.
