Foamybells ‘Alabama Sunrise’
* Common name: Foamybells ‘Alabama Sunrise’
* Botanical name: Heucherella ‘Alabama Sunrise’
* What it is: A shade-preferring perennial flower with beautiful lobed, scallop-edged leaves of greenish-gold with burgundy markings. Dainty white flower spikes in May.
* Size: 12-15 inches tall, 2 feet wide.
* Where to use: Edge front of beds along east and north foundations or in any shady or partly-shaded spot. No full sun or leaves will bleach whitish.
* Care: Keep damp the first season, then water usually needed only in droughts. Scatter balanced organic granular fertilizer such as Flower-tone or Plant-tone over the bed in early spring. Snip off flower stems after bloom. Cut browned-out leaves at end of winter but don’t cut into the crowns (the fleshy part just above the ground where the leaves emerge). Plants can be dug and divided in early spring or early fall. Main enemy: voles.
* Great partner: Add several around the base of hollies, boxwoods or yews.
