* Common name: Mealy cup sage ‘May Night’
* Botanical name: Salvia ‘May Night’
* What it is: Sun-loving, drought-tough perennial flower with dark purple flower spikes in May and June.
* Size: Grows about 18 inches tall, including flower spikes. Allow 24 to 30 inches around.
* Where to use: Perennial borders, sunny foundations and any hot, sunny spot.
* Care: Fertilize with Flower-tone or similar organic fertilizer in March. Snip off flower heads after bloom and plants will usually bloom again in late summer. Cut foliage to ground after frost kills it in fall or in early spring before new growth begins.
* Great partner: Looks great in front of or beside shrub roses. Also nice with pink dianthus such as ‘Bath’s Pink’ or ‘Firewitch,’ which bloom at the same time.
