Gaillardia ‘Oranges and Lemons’
* Common name: Blanketflower ‘Oranges and Lemons’
* Botanical name: Gaillardia aristata ‘Oranges and Lemons’
* What it is: A drought-tough, native perennial flower that sends out two-toned blooms (orange petals with yellow tips) around a burnt-orange center. Flowers most of summer and through a few early frosts.
* Size: 18 to 24 inches tall, 2 feet wide
* Where to use: Sunny foundations or borders, around mailboxes or in any open, sunny, well-drained bed.
* Care: Cut browned-out foliage to ground in fall or early spring. Snip flower stalks when blooms fade if you’re a neatnik. Fertilize with Flower-tone in March.
* Great partner: Any gold-needled evergreen. Or pair with red beebalm, red hardy hibiscus or red daylilies.
