* Botanical name: Tulipa fosteriana ‘Sweetheart’
* What it is: A mid-April-blooming bulb with lemony-yellow classic tulip flowers. Petal tips fade to white. Named as all-time top tulip in poll of international garden writers.
* Size: 16 to 18 inches tall. Plant bulbs 6 inches apart in October.
* Where to use: Mass in front foundation bed or use in wide rows to line walkways.
* Care: Clip flower stalks once flowers fade but wait until leaves at least yellow or preferable brown out to cut whole plants to the ground in May. Fertilize with Bulb-tone or similar bulb fertilizer in early fall.
* Great partner: Interplant with boxwoods or yews.
