Carrot ‘Sugarsnax’
* Common name: Carrot ‘Sugarsnax’
* Botanical name: Daucus carota var. sativus ‘Sugarsnax’
* What it is: A disease-resistant, hybrid, Imperator-type carrot with slender, 9- to 10-inch roots. Color is deep orange. This variety is sweet, tender, reliable, uniform in size and is ready for picking 65-70 days after seeding into the garden.
* Size: Foliage grows 8-10 inches tall, edible roots are 9-10 inches, and ideal spacing is 4 inches apart.
* Where to use: Vegetable garden or in pots. Full sun is best; light shade is OK.
* Care: Direct-seed in the garden starting in mid-April and then every 2 weeks through late May for a staggered summer harvest. Plant another crop in mid to late August for fall or early-winter harvest. Work compost and slow-release, balanced, organic fertilizer into the soil at planting. Keep the soil consistently damp.
* Great partner: Red beets and lettuce look good together with carrots and can be direct-seeded at the same time. For a spot of color, mix carrots with dwarf zinnias or marigolds.
