George’s Helpful Info You Can Buy
50 American Public Gardens You Really Ought to See
I love public gardens. I’ve seen hundreds of them across America as well as Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, and as far away as the other-worldly Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden in South Africa.
Travelers on our Lowee’s and Collette public-garden tours often ask me, “What’s your favorite?” That’s a tough question since they all have their own distinct appeals.
But to help you figure out your own must-see list, I put together a 62-page ebook of my 50 favorite American public gardens – in order. The profiles feature overviews and highlights of each garden, location and contact information, two photos of each garden, and a “George’s Take” look at what stands out most to me at each place.

Pennsylvania Month-by-Month Gardening
Even the best designed landscapes quickly fall apart if you don’t know what to do when. That’s the gist behind my second book from Cool Springs Press, revamped and updated from an earlier version authored by Liz Ball.
This 240-page paperback is done in a monthly format, giving you details on exactly what jobs should be done each month. Each monthly chapter is then broken down into the different kinds of jobs (Plan, Plant, Care, Problem-Solve, etc.) and under each of those is the category of plants (Annuals, Perennials, Shrubs, Trees, Lawns, etc.) It covers all of the main plant categories, except for edibles (fruits, herbs, vegetables).
Other sections include the specific “challenges” of plant care in Pennsylvania plus how to time your care based on nature’s cues, the pros and cons of various mulches, and how to care for a water garden.
I think it’s very practical and helpful for any Pennsylvanian trying to keep a yard looking good, whether you’re a rookie or an experienced soil jockey.
I’ll knock $2 off the new $26.95 list price, pay the sales tax, AND autograph your book if you order here. Specify in the “Autograph Name” box below to whom you’d like the book autographed or any other signing instructions.

George’s Survivor Plants for Pennsylvania
All plants are not created equal. Species and their exact varieties can make a big difference. This booklet features 19 detailed pages of plants George suggests as good performers in Pennsylvania’s soil and climate.
The list is broken down by plant types (trees, evergreens, shrubs, perennials, etc.) with the key stats included for each plant (height, width, preferred sun exposure, bloom time, bloom color and other pertinent attributes, such as fruits, foliage color and pest resistance). It’s updated for 2022.
