Weigela My Monet

Super-dwarf weigela ‘My Monet’ in George’s front bed, next to liriope and a hydrangea.

* Common name: Weigela My Monet(R)

* Botanical name: Weigela florida ‘Verweig’

* What it is: A super-dwarf flowering shrub with striking, creamy-edged variegated leaves and deep-rose tubular flowers in May.

* Size: Mini 2-foot mound.

* Where to use: Foundation beds, especially under windows or in those tight beds between walls and sidewalks. Best in morning sun and afternoon shade.

* Care: Virtually none once established. Trim to neaten right after bloom if you’d like and give an occasional soaking in dry weather.

* Great partner: Surround with sweet woodruff, ‘White Nancy’ lamium or annual white impatiens.
